What is the Waccamaw Neck?

The WACCAMAW NECK begins once you cross over the bridges leading north out of the City of Georgetown, thru Pawleys Island & Litchfield and up to the Murrells Inlet area.  That strip of land located between the ocean and the Waccamaw River and sort of resembles a long 'Neck'.  Basically the northern section of Georgetown County.  This is where some of the most beautiful real estate on the East Coast lies and where a southern, sophisticated lifestyle begins. 

 

What is the difference between Pawleys Island and Litchfield Beach?

This can be a little confusing to folks especially since the zip code for both areas show them to both be in Pawleys Island.  That's where the post office is located, therefore the Pawleys Island address.  To further confuse things, the Town of Pawleys Island consists of the actual 'island' itself, therefore the mainland Pawleys Island area is in an unincorporated area of Georgetown County, as is North & South  Litchfield.  The beaches of the actual Town of Pawleys Island are subject to additional rules and restrictions and enforced by the Town police department.  The beaches in North & South Litchfield are under County jurisdiction.   PUBLIC BEACH ACCESS points are located throughout all the beaches, with a larges parking area located on the south end of Pawleys Island.  The folks who live in Pawleys and Litchfield consider themselves to be in the Waccamaw Neck community, living in and around the 4 public schools all bearing the 'Waccamaw' name tag.
